Overview

Jason Talbard was born into wealth. His family, entrenched in Io's corporate aristocracy, lived in towering habitats far removed from the grime and sweat of everyday life. But while his parents brokered deals and expanded their empire, Jason found his passion elsewhere—buried in lines of code, system architecture, and the thrill of cracking into places he wasn’t supposed to be.

A prodigy with a terminal and a wrist-mounted holo-rig, Jason’s talent for digital intrusion quickly outgrew harmless pranks. He graduated from bypassing his school’s grading systems to slicing into corporate vaults and secured networks “for fun.” That fun caught up with him when one of his stunts embarrassed a powerful corporate ally.

Cut off from his family’s wealth and protection, Jason was left to fend for himself. He embraced it. Freedom tasted better than privilege. Since then, he's carved out a reputation as a brilliant but reckless systems hacker, taking whatever jobs kept him in the black.

His path crossed with Hank Lewis after a botched heist left him in need of fast transport and someone willing to look the other way. The C.S.S. Hell's Belle became his refuge and workshop—and, eventually, his home.

Smart, Cocky, Fast-Talking: Jason knows he’s good and sees no reason to hide it. His charm is a mix of confidence and genuine skill.

Adversary (Corporate Authorities): His hacking exploits left him on several blacklists. Some corps would pay handsomely for his capture.

Cut Off from Family Wealth: Though his last name still opens doors, the credits no longer follow. Pride keeps him from crawling back.

Compulsive Risk-Taker: The higher the stakes, the more alive he feels. It’s a dangerous habit.

Young & Overconfident: While brilliant, his lack of long-term caution has caused friction more than once.

Flamboyant Digital Signature: His hacks often bear his signature style—flashy, witty, and easily traced by persistent foes

Life Aboard the Belle

The Hell’s Belle is more than a ride—it’s his lab, his refuge, and occasionally his crash pad when things get too hot. Jason’s workstation is a mess of blinking holos, salvaged parts, and at least three half-completed projects.

He clashes with Lafayette’s “slow and steady” engineering but respects the results. With Hank, there’s an unspoken understanding: no lectures, just results. Fran? He knows better than to push her buttons—too much. But she’s got his back when it counts, and that’s mutual.

For all his swagger, the Belle’s crew is the closest thing to family Jason’s had since Io.
